In certain prescribed years in the Jewish calendar, Parashat Hukkat is read in combination with Parashat Balak. This presents some challenges for the triennial system. Suffice it to say, there are seven possible triennial patterns that can affect which verses are read when Parashat Hukkat is combined with Parashat Balak.
