In certain prescribed years in the Jewish calendar, Parashat Mattot is read in combination with Parashat Mas'ei. This presents some challenges for the triennial system. Suffice it to say, there are three possible triennial patterns that can affect which verses are read when Parashat Mattot is combined with Parashat Mas'ei.
