In certain prescribed years in the Jewish calendar, Parashat Mattot is read in combination with Parashat Mas'ei. This presents some challenges for the triennial system. Suffice it to say, that there are three possible triennial patterns that can affect which verses in Parashat Mattot are read when it is read separately from Parashat Mas'ei.
