Perek 3 Special Melodies

Use the recordings below to learn how to chant the Eikha special Perek (Chapter) 3 melodies according to the tradition established in "Chanting the Hebrew Bible" by Joshua Jacobson.

The third perek (chapter) of Eikha consists of 66 short verses. They are not chanted according to the te'amim, but rather, to a set of three melodies applied to each triplet of verses (verses 1-3, verses 4-6, verses 7-9, etc.).
An understanding of the syntax of the te'amim can help with the proper phrasing and application of each of the three melodies. The first half of each melody (ending with the first fermata  ) is applied to the phrase ending with either zakef or tippecha. The second half of each melody (ending with the second fermata  ) is applied to the rest of the verse.
